A warship’s mast repurposed for community safety

This alarm bell tower was formerly the mast of the escort carrier Shimane-maru, built during World War II. After its completion in Kobe, the ship was evacuated to Shido Bay in Kagawa Prefecture to avoid air raids, where it British forces attacked and sank it before it could be used. Bullet holes can be seen near the base.
